Vestas!!! Stand For Their Jobs & Earth

As many others are reporting the UK’s only wind turbine factory was going to close, yep that’s right even as NL release their Green strategy they were allowing the only place that makes wind turbines to be closed by profit before all else capitalists. So the workers on the Isle of Wight (really!) have done the right thing and occupied the factory!

Martin Empson via Derek Wall:- Save Vestas – Defend Jobs, Save the Planet – Support the Occupation

Workers at the Vestas Wind Turbine factory on the Isle of Wight have JUST NOW occupied their factory. They are fighting for 600 jobs and the future of the planet. They need help now.

There is a large picket of support starting outside the factory. This will be crucial in giving people confidence inside. We want hundreds of people by morning.
If you are not working, come now, by car, bus or train.
If you are on the South Coast and working, come for the night and go to work exhausted and proud.

If you can’t come, call up friends and offer to pay the fare or petrol money for someone else to come down. Or part of the fare.
Don’t just call the environmental and union activists you know. Call your friends and ask them who they know. Call your brother’s friends or your children’s friends. Text everyone. Get your friends calling and texting.

The workers want Gordon Brown to step in as if it was a troubled bank and save the jobs and keep making wind turbine blades. They gave the bankers trillions. They say they care about climate change. He has talked about creating 40,000 “Green Jobs”, the first step should be protecting these 600.

The workers will need solidarity – donations of money, food and other assistance. In the first instance please send messages of solidarity to

We will suggest other forms of solidarity soon. Do this now. Reach for your phone

Latin America Solidarity Coalition- Petition Presidential Candidates To Commit To Closing SOA/WHINSEC

Given the way the primaries have been going, we are currently having more leverage with the U.S. presidential candidates than at any other time. Let’s use it! Committing one or more of them to come out publicly for the closure of the School of the Americas (SOA/WHINSEC) is a realistic and attainable goal. Once the candidate is elected president, we can hold him or her accountable to follow through and to close the school by executive order.

The Latin America Solidarity Coalition (LASC) is circulating this petition to the Senators Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John McCain. Urge them to take a public stand for the closure of the School of the Americas (SOA/WHINSEC) and to commit to close this notorious institution by executive order if they will be elected as the next President of the United States.

19th March, 5th Anniversary Of The Iraq Invasion- Blogswarm

This March 19th will be 5 years of the Iraq war. Consequently the prescient GodlessLiberalHomo has come up with a blogswarm and inveigled me into helping getting it going. Neither he nor I own this, we’re just getting it going, this is everyone’s who wants to participate. So you may have questions, what is a blogswarm?

This blogswarm will promote blog postings opposing the war in Iraq and calling for a full withdrawal of foreign occupying forces in Iraq. Five years of an illegal and catastrophic war is five years too many. On the March 19 anniversary of the conquest of Iraq by the Bush Administration, there needs to be a loud volume of voices countering the pro-war propaganda from far too many politicians and corporate media outlets.

Q. How do I become involved?

Go to the swarm homeblog and- Post a comment with your blog’s title and URL. If you join up by the fifth anniversary of mass actions against the war, February 15, 2008, you will be included in the listing of “Charter Blogs” displayed on the home blogs menu.

Q. Hey, how about some badges? I’m glad you asked-

You can just save them to your computer and post onto your blog linking to

…if you wish. Making up your own badges/promotions is heartily encouraged, which leads to…

Q. How do I help promote the blogswarm to make it an enormous chorus of disapproval for the Iraq war ? Well for now the basic approach is the well worn spreading the word by commenting on blogs you frequent/know of, leaving information about the blogswarm and including a link to the homeblog and emailing your friends/contacts.

Q. What is the point? Wars are bad, we should be doing less of them. It isn’t rocket science. The blogswarm is not a replacement for other actions it is as well as anything else you might be doing. Around the 5th anniversary you can be sure the same people who lied us into this war will be unapologetically continuing their propaganda and unless we counter that there will be more conflict and more death. Specifically for Iraq it could mean a long term occupation that would most likely not end until the last drop of oil is sucked out of the ground, that would mean an unending insurgency and counter insurgency which is the dirtiest most brutal kind of warfare there is. Quite apart from the fact that the invasion was an illegal war of aggression and it continues killing people on all sides and causing generational damage in all those involved, from homeless veterans to traumatised children.

Q. And on the day? Write something or several somethings relevant to the the Iraq war, raise a chorus of voices. Let’s not be having to do this for the 10th anniversary. In fact this is an election year in the US, let’s not let year 6 go by without withdrawals.

Q. This question and answer format is a bit overused, unoriginal and tedious isn’t it? Quite possibly, just so long as you participate in countering the pro-war narrative, you really need to do nothing more than post about the Iraq war on/around the 19th March and notify of it, so more people see your work and thoughts, ideas and passions are exchanged and shared. There are forces in the world who want war, people who rarely pay the price but often reap a profit, we can do better than let them run the Earth.

An Appeal To Shannon RN Regarding Centinela Hospital

Thank you Shannon for leaving your long, detailed and passionately righteous comment on this post about Prem Reddy. Another commenter is trying to get in touch with you, this is what they have recently written-

“Shannon” or anyone else with helpful info. Our family is having a nightmare with this hospital. We don’t know what is going on with our family member, and we don’t know who we can trust. We are kept in the dark about everything that KEEPS GOING WRONG with our loved one’s progress. How can there be problem after problem that keeps making things worse, not better? The stay keeps getting longer and longer…it’s like it was intended this way!

Burmese Trade Unions Call For Sanctions

Do not believe those who claim that sanctions against the junta will hurt the people! Remember South Africa!”. If sanctions do not hurt the generals, then why on earth are they demanding, as a precondition for talking with her, that our national, democratically-elected leader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, drop her call for economic sanctions against the regime? Daw Suu’s party, the NLD has just rejected these SPDC’s demands, which have not changed for years. FTUB fully supports the NLD’s line and asks you to support it as well. We know that this will be used against us by the regime, which will once more portray us as terrorists, intent on destroying the nation. They are lying: the only weapons used in the democracy movement are the guns turned by the army against the people, guns bought with the huge benefits deriving from international investments and trade. To the unionists of the world, we say: “We are fighting for our parents, for our children, for their children and for our own survival. They will not scare us into submission or surrender! Our cause is just and it is simple: Burma’s people are not less able or deserving of living in democracy than any other people in the world. With your help, we will win! And, as was said many years ago by Daw Suu: Please use your own freedom to defend ours!”

Rolls Royce suddenly find their ethical reasons for trading with the junta aren’t so important with the glare of publicity on them, they pull out but…did this close the airline or was it because the airline was closing thus this move is purely business and RR are looking for praise where they deserve none? Still that’s another corporation off the dirty list, getting kind of lonely out there, ain’t it Total?

Movie star Kyaw Thu & his wife are arrested, their location unknown and the HIV awareness film he was in remains in official censor limbo-

The Burmese video censorship board is using dilatory tactics to permit release and screening of an HIV awareness video film, in which prominent Burmese actor Kyaw Thu plays the lead role,

Kyaw Thu, who gave his support to protesting monks in last month’s demonstrations in Rangoon, was arrested by Burmese authorities yesterday along with his wife, according to movie industry sources.

Kyaw Thu, an academy award winning movie star as well as a founder and vice-president of the Free Funeral Services Society, offered food and moral support to monks at Shwe Dagon pagoda during protests on 24 and 25 of September, along with comedian Zaganar and veteran politician Amyotharyay Win Naing.

The couple had been hiding in an unknown location in Rangoon up until their arrest yesterday. Kyaw Thu spoke to demonstrators at Shwe Dagon on 25 September, the day before the junta started the crackdown on protests, and told them there was no need to be afraid as they were following the teachings of Buddha by protesting in a peaceful way. “For us Buddhists, the moral is the most important thing. We have to follow what Buddha taught us. . . This is no time for us to be afraid,” he said.

After yesterdays report of deaths in custody including Win Shwe an NLD member, more torture-

A source close to authorities in Insein prison told The Irrawaddy on Thursday that many prisoners are tortured and some are now hospitalized in serious condition

hundreds of detained Buddhist monks in Myitkyina in Kachin State in upper Burma are also reportedly being tortured in detention centers. One monk has died

The AAPP said it is concerned about the risk of torture for more than 2,000 monks, activists and members of the public now in detention centers. Numerous prisoners are being subjected to torture, said the group.

Another Buddhist monk who was recently released confirmed that about 700 monks and laypeople were detained in a hall some 9m by 21m (30 ft x70 ft). “It really was hell,” he said. “I could do nothing for a young novice who was dying beside me. We asked for help from the security guards, but they didn’t do anything until they came to take away his dead body.”

The UN resolution-

The Burma Campaign UK today welcomed the first formal statement on Burma by the United Nations Security Council as a significant step, but warned that a binding resolution is likely to be one of the few things that will force the regime into genuine talks about reform.

Jotman investigates the cosy relationship between Japan and Burma, Japan’s former ambassador seems deeply in love with the junta-

“In reality, members of the military junta are far from clinging to power for selfish motives, rather they are devoted to making self sacrifices for the cause of their country and its people. They state on every occasion that the present government s task is only provisional and that having no intention of staying in power for a long time, they are ready to go back to their barracks as soon as their mission is complete. They also demonstrate probity. In contrast to what frequently occurs in similar cases in many countries, corruption is exceptional.”

Erm, ‘corruption is exceptional’ might not come off the way he meant it…

Thursday Blog Action For Burma

Just got this in a comment:-

Free Burma!
International Bloggers’ Day for Burma on the 4th of October

International bloggers are preparing an action to support the peaceful revolution in Burma. We want to set a sign for freedom and show our sympathy for these people who are fighting their cruel regime without weapons. These Bloggers are planning to refrain from posting to their blogs on October 4 and just put up one Banner then, underlined with the words „Free Burma!“.

Which is fine and dandy and I will support something that shows solidarity, however I don’t think me not posting for a whole day while shit is still going down in Burma is actually as helpful as continuing to blog about it. Um, I mean I think it works if it focuses your blog for the day on Burma and you refrain from other subjects, perhaps use the downtime from blogging to send notes to companies trading with the regime and contact your elected representatives and make sure they know they must help the democracy movement. Also there are demos planned so check for those-

On Saturday 6th October there will be an international day of action, with marches and protests. A non-stop vigil is also being held outside Parliament.

But I think I will continue although I will solely post about Burma on (Thursday) the 4th.

Massive Rally In Jena, The Racists Can’t Hide

Click to listen to Democracy Now-

He read a statement to begin his press conference, saying this trial has nothing to do with race. And immediately, I mean, you could hear like gasps in the back of the crowd. He was obviously flustered by the questions that were asked, or he was unprepared for them. And at the end, as someone asked him, “Why are you trying to destroy these boys’ lives with a stroke of your pen?” he picked up his folder and scattered microphones across the ground and said, “It’s obvious that this press conference is out of control.” And he turned around and ran back inside the courthouse.

Also significant is that he came out with [Justin] Barker, the alleged victim, and flanked by the sheriff and police officers, who are supposed to obviously be impartial in the trying of this case. But the sheriff came out with the prosecutor and the alleged victim to his press conference. And, you know, obviously, the sheriff wasn’t out there standing with the father of the real victim, I would say, of this case, Mychal Bell and the other five students who are now facing, you know, eighty years in prison.

Thousands are converging on Jena and I think it is brilliant, Jena needs to be invaded and told it can no longer live its bigoted ol’ ways. As I wrote before about bullies-

When I was 11 my mother got a phone call from another mother she knew, the call was to say that her son who was in my class was being bullied and could she ask me to maybe hang out with him a bit and just see that nothing bad happened to him. Fine, happy to do it, the kid’s mother phoned as many of the mothers of boys in my class as she could. The next day out of a class of 30, about 20 boys were going around with the bullies target, we hung out with him and just mooched around, the bullies (3 of them) very quickly checked the odds, them vs. basically the whole rest of the class. Bullying over, not just because of the numbers but because it was out and public and bullies always look pathetic in the cold light of day.

Us Vonnegut Fans Have To Stick Together

When I was 11 my mother got a phone call from another mother she knew, the call was to say that her son who was in my class was being bullied and could she ask me to maybe hang out with him a bit and just see that nothing bad happened to him. Fine, happy to do it, the kid’s mother phoned as many of the mothers of boys in my class as she could. Bullying over, not just because of the numbers but because it was out and public and bullies always look pathetic in the cold light of day.

The relevance of this is that recently a blogger got death threats and it all blew up into a frenzy and a code of blog civility was proposed. Well some of it I agreed with, some I didn’t, me civil? Hmmm.

I like to mooch around a few blogs and one I like very much is the Unapologetic Mexican and the point was made there that many minority bloggers, particularly female ones often get a lot of abuse but it does not cause as much attention as the Sierra incident. Shameful but unfortunately not surprising. Now a blogger called Devious Diva is under attack from fascist retards who are posting her name and details online. She recently wrote a series on Roma families being evicted in Greece, so you see where this going, who hates gypsies, women, minorities? You don’t need a History channel special to figure these dummkopf’s out. Whatever they may say in defence of this tactic the basic fact is if you post someone’s details online it is because you want their voice to be silenced. It is bullying, it is terrorism. You don’t need to see Costa Gavras’s Z to undertsand how the scumbags operate.

So all blogs of good conscience have a duty to unite in solidarity with the person being attacked and stand against these cowards. So show some support to Devious Diva and show the numbskulls the odds are always against the bullies.
