Friday Nooz Dumped!

Knowing the IAEA report would be an overwhelminlgy positive one on Iran’s nuclear program the US threw a spanner in the works, at the last minute (last Friday) they dumped a load of ‘intelligence’ from a laptop they claim contains plans of Iranian weapon programs. However the provenance of this laptop is a bit…how shall we say…yellow cakey? So the IAEA report includes some mention of these accusations which the Iranians have for now angrily dismissed. This has now been used to help the six sanctions crazed western powers to bolster their plans for a package of measures to be announced next week. See how that works?

The empire’s occupation forces in Iraq breathed a sigh of relief- Muqtada al-Sadr ordered his Mahdi army militia to extend its cease-fire for another six months. While the damage form a previous war is still being denied in the imperial courtroom-

A federal appeals court upheld on Friday the dismissal of a civil lawsuit against major U.S. chemical companies brought by Vietnamese plaintiffs over the use of the defoliant “agent orange” during the Vietnam War. The ruling, handed down by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, concluded the plaintiffs could not pursue their claims against Dow Chemical Co, Monsanto Co and nearly 30 other companies. The lawsuit contended agent orange caused ailments, including birth defects and cancer.

Uzbekistan is a country our government tries to deport people to saying it is a safe place, it now claims to have abolished the death penalty-

SURAT IKRAMOV– In the past, death penalty verdicts were handed down on the basis of two articles in the criminal code — murder with intent, article 97, and terrorism, article 155. Between 2002 and 2007, we have monitored trails on both these counts. We have demonstrated that in almost half the cases the charges were fabricated and the defendants subjected to torture. Guilt was not proven in the trails.

But despite this, the courts sentenced innocent people to death under pressure from the executive branch of power. At the same time, the real criminals were allowed to go free. So, with the abolition of the death penalty those illegally sentenced to death could gradually have the chance of being exonerated — that is if the real killers or terrorists are actually arrested.

Once again the free market fails and begs the government to help protect their profits-

The government has said it will review the future of broadband internet in the UK amid calls that it should help firms pay for installing new infrastructure.

And will MI5 own up to it’s dirty war in Ireland? Whadya reckon?

MI5 operated in Northern Ireland throughout the Troubles – running large numbers of agents and informers. There have been allegations that it was involved in collusion with republican and loyalist paramilitaries. Lord Eames and Mr Bradley want all groups involved in the Troubles to tell the truth about their role. They met the Director General of MI5 in London on Friday afternoon to discuss how much it is prepared to reveal.

And the dirty drone war in Pakistan-

In the weeks before the election Monday, a series of meetings among President George W. Bush’s national security advisers resulted in a significant relaxation of the rules under which U.S. forces could aim attacks at suspected Qaeda and Taliban fighters in the areas near Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan. The change, described by senior U.S. and Pakistani officials who would not speak for attribution because the program is classified, allows American military commanders greater leeway to choose from what one official who participated in the debate called “a Chinese menu” of attack options.

Instead of having to confirm the identity of a suspected militant leader before attacking, this shift allows American operators to strike convoys that bear the characteristics of Qaeda or Taliban leaders on the run, for instance, so long as the risk of civilian casualties is judged to be low.

Yeah that’s right, if they look a bit…terroristy, flying robots of death away! But after the elections Bush minions are pre-empting the new rulers by saying they are worried they might curtail this aerial automata slaughter, hint hint, don’t you fucking dare.

Eritrea is making preparations for a US approved Ethiopian attack by kicking out UN forces enforcing a dodgy US brokered border agreement-

The [UN] mission started work in 2000 after a two-year border war between the Horn of Africa neighbors that killed an estimated 70,000 people. It has been stationed in a 15.5-mile (25-km) buffer zone inside Eritrea. But Asmara turned against the mission because of U.N. inability to enforce rulings by an independent boundary commission awarding chunks of Ethiopian-held territory, including the town of Badme, to Eritrea.

And apparently the police state has decided they can bug MP’s conversations, oh yes, say hello to the telescreen Winston-

The report says the recording was not covered by the Wilson doctrine, which forbids the security services bugging MPs. Rose reaches this conclusion by deciding that only bugging requiring the approval of the home secretary is covered by the doctrine, while the recording in Khan’s case only needed to be authorised by a senior police officer.

Get that? Because a cop did it the Wilson doctrine doesn’t apply now, if MP’s don’t come down on this like a ton of bricks, we are in deep trouble.

The Presidential soap opera continues and as this points out, McCain betraying himself and backing torture, not so big a story as the good old politician shags lobbying bint standby. Also this disturbing nugget-

Security details at Barack Obama’s rally Wednesday stopped screening people for weapons at the front gates more than an hour before the Democratic presidential candidate took the stage at Reunion Arena. The order to put down the metal detectors and stop checking purses and laptop bags came as a surprise to several Dallas police officers who said they believed it was a lapse in security.

The question as yet unanswered is was this form the campaign, in which case no big conspiracy, or was it something else? Can the demonstrably institutionally racist & politically compromised secret service be trusted.

And the British war crime kept covered up is now getting some media presence-

British troops may have executed up to 20 captives in southern Iraq in 2004, human rights lawyers claimed today. A dossier of evidence from men taken captive after a gun battle near the Iraqi town of Majat-al-Kabir in May 2004 also suggested soldiers tortured and mutilated captives. Lawyers for five Iraqis today issued detailed witness statements, photographs of corpses and death certificates of the men who died. The allegations first emerged within weeks of the incident and have since been investigated by the Royal Military Police.

Only took lot’s of hard legal work and almost four years.

Spooked

MI5 has expanded fast, particularly into the regions. New offices were opened in the South East and Wales in 2006/7 – and by 2008, regional stations will house three times the number of staff originally planned, the report reveals. The Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) – or, to use its more popular name, MI6 – grew at a rate of 3.6% in the last year compared to nearly 30% for MI5, but it has still been undergoing significant changes.

In its broadest definition, counter-terrorism now takes up 56% of MI6’s work and that figure is rising.

The committee also looked at the issue of whether the government was justified in saying that there were real national security considerations when it came to halting the Serious Fraud Office’s investigation into BAE Systems’ dealings with Saudi Arabia. Sir John told the committee that if Saudi Arabia had carried out a threat to withdraw counter-terrorist co-operation the results would be serious since it was a ‘an absolutely key country’, although the government declined to show the committee one note from the prime minister on the subject.

The government’s eavesdropping agency, GCHQ, has also been put under pressure with resources increasingly devoted to supporting MI5 operations. Making sure its resources keep pace has not always been easy.

Ooh, regional expansion, so kind of London centric England to give us the chance for more of this. And the spooks are pissed the media is leaked to, by whom though? This creates pressure from them to the government for more state control of the media, nice little circular grift that. Just how believable and independent of political interference are these cloak & dagger merchants…they support the government’s blocking of the fraud investigation of the BAE/Saudi/govt deals/bribes. Apart from y’know, promoting and rewarding the liars of Iraq, still, who wants to end up like David Kelly?

Dietrich: [looking through an infra-red scope, walks right past an Alien that is molded into the Hive’s wall without even noticing it] Maybe they don’t show up on infra red at all.

John Edwards, because he talks about labour and corporatism, is being censored out of the presidential race by corporate media. But that speaks of the real disappearing trick that has happened, even in this article about class the absence is notable. No one says ‘working class’ in American mainstream discourse, the nearest they get is the approved code words ‘middle class’ that is somewhat acceptable but even that gets you in trouble for being ‘shrill’ or invoking ‘the politics of jealousy’. But it has been really annoying me, constantly hearing ‘middle class’ because no one dares sound like a ‘red’ (I suppose, McCarthy and the ‘red scare’ did its work) by talking about the working class, sometimes ‘working man’ (careful though with ‘working poor’) gets a look in but never mention ‘class’ with that. Some billionaires are allowed to say it but only when musing on how they won the class war, oh yeah and NEVER say ‘class war’. After all a billionaire conservative is a ‘moderate‘.

The race is already between shades of conservative but now the whole lower paid section of their population is unpeople. Even beyond the hateful notions of deserving and undeserving poor, now they just have…no poor, a nation economically cleansed of it’s own rotting reality. Should make the recession interesting, will people simply disappear from perception when their net worth drops below a certain level?

Ps. Yes, both an ‘Aliens’ and ‘Buffy’ reference in one post…and Stalin!

Norman Finkelstein More Taboo Than The BNP

To the Oxford Union that is, Prof. Finkelstein was invited to a debate but became ‘uninvited’ now the OU president Luke Tryl, who the Guardian describes as- chairman of the Halifax branch of Conservative Future, formerly known as the Young Conservatives– (imagine a decent northern place like Halifax and he runs the tory kids club, meh) are having Nick Griffin (& David Irving) turn up, like some kind of attention seeking, media career elevating pantomime for Tryl. But it also reveals the idiot Griffin gets an easier ride than Norman Finkelstein which is utterly outrageous, Griffin is a racist and a fascist, Finkelstein is a renowned academic whose only crime is pissing off fanatical numpties like Alan Dershowitz. But apparently it turns out real discussion of Israel & Palestine is forbidden but moronic boobs like Griffin get the floor. So all the protestations of free speech are bit weak because when it came to defending Norman Finkelstein’s free speech the OU folded like a cheap suit. So I think we come back to toryboy Tryl and his future ambitions and woohoo, he gets in the papers again and as a conservative, never hurts to defend a far right parties rights, sets out your credentials without having to be too explicit. Palestinians meanwhile are kept in the shadows, silenced unpeople, the taboo that exists in America infecting the UK.

Airline Safety Study Hushed Up Because Things Ain’t So Safe

I don’t want to worry you and I know that air travel is quite an ordeal for many, but erm, this is sort of worth knowing, y’know, in that -commerce trumps truth and life every-fucking-time- kind of way:

NASA is withholding 24,000 responses to safety questionnaires supplied by airline pilots and others to avoid shaking public confidence in the air transport system, over the objections of the survey’s designers.

The questionnaires ask about bird strikes, near misses in the air or on runways, last-second changes in landing instructions from air traffic controllers and other problems. Two people involved in the data gathering said that the answers showed far higher rates of problems than data collected by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The questionnaires were called for in 1997 by a White House commission on aviation safety, known as the Gore Commission. The interviews, conducted by phone, were completed in early 2005.

So it took ten years to reach this reporting stage and then it gets spiked, oh dearie me-

Two people involved in the survey, called the National Aviation Operations Monitoring Service, said that they had been ordered by NASA not to talk about what it found but they said that it indicated that the aviation administration had underestimated the rate of safety events.

BTW ‘safety events’ means accidents & potentials, see how fuct we are here? The article is full of counter spin and rubbishing of the survey, ok fine, publish and peer review it. I mean you wouldn’t want to have people think you’ve got something to hide, would you?

What Is Happening To Make Even Hardline CIA People Quit?

Do we think we know everything that is going on? Ken Silverstein at Harpers-

What’s interesting is that this official was generally known as something of a hardliner. I haven’t been able to pin down the date of his departure, which may have occurred a year ago or more. However, the sources tell me he couldn’t stomach what he deemed to be abuses by the Bush Administration and stepped down from his post.

…[this] senior CIA legal official quit in protest over the administration’s use of “enhanced interrogations.” This official, whose name I have promised not to publish, previously worked as a deputy IG for investigations under Frederick Hitz, who served as CIA IG between 1990 and 1998. From there, the official moved on the CIA’s Office of General Counsel.

Well over a year ago I reported on a brewing revolt within the CIA over the Bush Administration’s use of renditions, “enhanced interrogation” techniques (otherwise known as torture) and other tough tactics employed in the “war on terrorism.” One former official with whom I spoke at the time told me, “There are people who fear that indictments and subpoenas could be coming down, and they don’t want to get caught up in it.” This person went on to describe a split at the CIA, saying, “There’s an SS group within the agency that’s willing to do anything and there’s a Wehrmacht group that is saying, ‘I’m not gonna touch this stuff’.”

Since then, it’s become clear that dissent within the agency on these matters has become even more intense. As I’ve also previously reported, some of the in-house critics have taken their complaints to CIA Inspector General (IG) John Helgerson. Today’s New York Times reports that CIA director General Michael Hayden

has ordered an unusual internal inquiry into the work of [Helgerson], whose aggressive investigations of the C.I.A.’s detention and interrogation programs and other matters have created resentment among agency operatives…The review is particularly focused on complaints that Mr. Helgerson’s office has not acted as a fair and impartial judge of agency operations but instead has begun a crusade against those who have participated in controversial detention programs. Any move by the agency’s director to examine the work of the inspector general would be unusual, if not unprecedented

30 years from now will people be asking how could we not have known? Not have known about…what, we think we know, we think leaks and rumours, a few good investigative journalists are giving us the full picture. But is it likely the US military/intelligence could not keep any secrets? We have reports of torture, ghost prisons/black sites, rendition. Once you’ll do all of those, you have gone outside of both law and morality and have successfully othered your targets into subhumans. Humans don’t usually stop there once that journey is begun.

Already the death toll in Iraq is routinely dismissed by both government and media, few will report the over 1 million figure. And the director of BBC news casually censors the Chief of the General Staff’s remarks we are killing Iraqi nationalists, and are most concerned with their own needs – jobs, money, security, hope – and the majority therefore I suggest are not bad people. Are we arrogant and complacent to think we have a fairly good picture of what is going on in our name?

What else is out there? In the night & fog?

Windscale/Sellafield: Edge Of Darkness

000114d110dr.jpg

If you had/have a loved one who died of cancer (around the area or involved with govt/military) revelations like this resonate in a certain way, no big cause and effect, just odd. Just a queasy feeling about how governments lie to us & something about the official secrets world of nuclear shenanigans-

Britain’s worst nuclear accident, the Windscale [The Windscale plant – one of a pair of reactors constructed to manufacture plutonium for Britain’s nuclear weapons programme] fire in Cumbria, released twice as much radioactive debris as was previously thought. Scientists studying weather patterns and amounts of radioactive material distributed after the 1957 blaze say previous estimates have played down its deadly impact.

‘We have had to double our estimates of amounts that were released,’ said former UK Atomic Energy Authority researcher John Garland. As a result of this re-evaluation, scientists say the fire – which sent a plume of caesium, iodine and polonium across Britain and northern Europe – may have caused several dozen more cases of cancer than had been estimated previously.

It was originally thought that little harm had been done by the blaze and that only a few cancer cases had been triggered. Then in 1990 radiation experts, using new epidemiological methods, calculated that up to 200 cases of cancer – including thyroid and breast cancer and also leukaemia – could have been triggered by the fire’s emissions.

Now researchers say they may have to raise that estimate yet again. ‘Several dozen more cancer cases may have to be added to our total,’ said epidemiologist Professor Richard Wakeford, of Manchester University. However, Wakeford said it was impossible to determine which individual cancer cases might be linked to the incident at Windscale, now called Sellafield. ‘We can only say an excess in cancer cases was caused by the fire.’

After the fire, the government placed a six-week ban on consumption of milk from cows grazing within 200 miles of Windscale. However, the weather carried nuclear contamination far beyond that boundary and it covered much of England and parts of northern Europe. The reactor was left in such a dangerous state of intense radioactivity that it has lain undisturbed – too dangerous to decommission.

Only New Scientist headlines this with the words ‘cover up’ most stories are based on the same report promoting a documentary on Monday on BBC2, but again not much outrage, 50 years covers the lies and anger quite well it seems and don’t for a minute think that isn’t a tried and trusted tactic of government- time. Also not much pointing out by the media that Windscale had its name changed to Sellafield (emphasising a lesser known name for the area to obscure the name of the plant) to further aid its descent into the memory hole (reports in the Irish press mention this and about the suspected contamination there). I have to conclude our corporate media are quite friendly to UK nuclear power interests, after all they make sure to end some reports with current engineers saying how much safer new reactors are (which they are, but something in the way this story is handled here smacks of…well, handling). And if you don’t know about ‘Edge of Darkness’ find out more here.

Alisher Usmanov- Come On Feel Tha Noize!

Oh Alisher you poked the bear, you shouldn’t oughtn’t to have done that…So billionaire oligarch sics lawyers on bloggers because (as has been pointed out) hosting companies are the weak link in freedom of expression. While the information is available in a book and Usmanov did not sue over that (gosh you don’t suppose he doesn’t want the claims tested in court do you? Why, that would mean they are true!) his goons know some scary letters to a company who can avoid jeopardy by simply deleting a few accounts does the trick. One problem, well over a hundred (and counting) in fact-

Curious Hamster, Pickled Politics, Harry’s Place, Tim Worstall, Dizzy, Iain Dale, Ten Percent, Blairwatch, Davide Simonetti, Earthquake Cove, Turbulent Cleric (who suggests dropping a line to the FA about Mr Usmanov), Mike Power, Jailhouse Lawyer, Suesam, Devil’s Kitchen, The Cartoonist, Falco, Casualty Monitor, Forever Expat, Arseblog, Drink-soaked Trots (and another), Pitch Invasion, Wonko’s World, Roll A Monkey, Caroline Hunt, Westminster Wisdom, Chris K, Anorak, Mediawatchwatch, Norfolk Blogger, Chris Paul, Indymedia (with a list of Craig Murray’s articles that are currently unavailable), Obsolete, Tom Watson, Cynical Chatter, Reactionary Snob, Mr Eugenides, Matthew Sinclair, The Select Society, Liberal England, Davblog, Peter Gasston Pitch Perfect, Adelaide Green Porridge Cafe, Lunartalks, Tygerland, The Crossed Pond, Our Kingdom, Big Daddy Merk, Daily Mail Watch, Graeme’s, Random Thoughts, Nosemonkey, Matt Wardman, Politics in the Zeros, Love and Garbage, The Huntsman, Conservative Party Reptile, Ellee Seymour, Sabretache, Not A Sheep, Bartholomew’s Notes on Religion, The People’s Republic Of Newport, Life, the Universe & Everything, Arsenal Transfer Rumour Mill, The Green Ribbon, Blood & Treasure, The Last Ditch, Areopagitica, Football in Finland, An Englishman’s Castle, Freeborn John, Eursoc, The Back Four, Rebellion Suck!, Ministry of Truth, ModernityBlog, Beau Bo D’Or, Scots and Independent, The Splund, Bill Cameron, Podnosh, Dodgeblogium, Moving Target, Serious Golmal, Goonerholic, The Spine, Zero Point Nine, Lenin’s Tomb, The Durruti Column, The Bristol Blogger, ArseNews, David Lindsay, Quaequam Blog!, On A Quiet Day…, Kathz’s Blog, England Expects, Theo Spark, Duncan Borrowman, Senn’s Blog, Katykins, Jewcy, Kevin Maguire, Stumbling and Mumbling, Famous for 15 megapixels, Ordovicius, Tom Morris, AOL Fanhouse, Doctor Vee, The Curmudgeonly, The Poor Mouth, 1820, Hangbitch, Crooked Timber, ArseNole, Identity Unknown, Liberty Alone, Amused Cynicism, Clairwil, The Lone Voice, Tampon Teabag, Unoriginalname38, Special/Blown It, The Remittance Man, 18 Doughty Street (121).

This attempt at shutting down bloggers also reveals the cowardly snakes in our midst, Schillings law firm and Fasthost web hosting company. It will also be watched with interest by all manner of rich and powerful types in business and politics to see if they can tame and dominate the web as they do traditional media, that’s why it is so important to be kicking against the pricks now. Also it is rather wonderful that even though the blogs above come from very different political and social positions and some are in fact sworn enemies, one thing we all agree on is tyranny like this can fuck right off and the solidarity is a sight to behold. This fight is now showing in the mainstream media, various Guardian articles and tonight

Pickled Politic’s Sunny Hundal is on More 4 News this evening at 8pm talking about this and free speech on the web.

And now the original post by Craig Murray that has the authoritarians in such a tizzy-

Alisher Usmanov, potential Arsenal chairman, is a Vicious Thug, Criminal, Racketeer, Heroin Trafficker and Accused Rapist

I thought I should make my views on Alisher Usmanov quite plain to you. You are unlikely to see much plain talking on Usmanov elsewhere in the media becuase he has already used his billions and his lawyers in a pre-emptive strike. They have written to all major UK newspapers, including the latter:

“Mr Usmanov was imprisoned for various offences under the old Soviet regime. We wish to make it clear our client did not commit any of the offences with which he was charged. He was fully pardoned after President Mikhail Gorbachev took office. All references to these matters have now been expunged from police records . . . Mr Usmanov does not have any criminal record.”

Let me make it quite clear that Alisher Usmanov is a criminal. He was in no sense a political prisoner, but a gangster and racketeer who rightly did six years in jail. The lawyers cunningly evoke “Gorbachev”, a name respected in the West, to make us think that justice prevailed. That is completely untrue.

Usmanov’s pardon was nothing to do with Gorbachev. It was achieved through the growing autonomy of another thug, President Karimov, at first President of the Uzbek Soviet Socilist Republic and from 1991 President of Uzbekistan. Karimov ordered the “Pardon” because of his alliance with Usmanov’s mentor, Uzbek mafia boss and major international heroin overlord Gafur Rakimov. Far from being on Gorbachev’s side, Karimov was one of the Politburo hardliners who had Gorbachev arrested in the attempted coup that was thwarted by Yeltsin standing on the tanks outside the White House.

Usmanov is just a criminal whose gangster connections with one of the World’s most corrupt regimes got him out of jail. He then plunged into the “privatisation” process at a time when gangster muscle was used to secure physical control of assets, and the alliance between the Russian Mafia and Russian security services was being formed.

Usmanov has two key alliances. he is very close indeed to President Karimov, and especially to his daughter Gulnara. It was Usmanov who engineered the 2005 diplomatic reversal in which the United States was kicked out of its airbase in Uzbekistan and Gazprom took over the country’s natural gas assets. Usmanov, as chairman of Gazprom Investholdings paid a bribe of $88 million to Gulnara Karimova to secure this. This is set out on page 366 of Murder in Samarkand.

Alisher Usmanov had risen to chair of Gazprom Investholdings because of his close personal friendship with Putin, He had accessed Putin through Putin’s long time secretary and now chef de cabinet, Piotr Jastrzebski. Usmanov and Jastrzebski were roommates at college. Gazprominvestholdings is the group that handles Gazproms interests outside Russia, Usmanov’s role is, in effect, to handle Gazprom’s bribery and sleaze on the international arena, and the use of gas supply cuts as a threat to uncooperative satellite states.

Gazprom has also been the tool which Putin has used to attack internal democracy and close down the independent media in Russia. Gazprom has bought out – with the owners having no choice – the only independent national TV station and numerous rgional TV stations, several radio stations and two formerly independent national newspapers. These have been changed into slavish adulation of Putin. Usmanov helped accomplish this through Gazprom. The major financial newspaper, Kommersant, he bought personally. He immediately replaced the editor-in-chief with a pro-Putin hack, and three months later the long-serving campaigning defence correspondent, Ivan Safronov, mysteriously fell to his death from a window.

All this, both on Gazprom and the journalist’s death, is set out in great detail here:
http://www.craigmurray.co.uk/archives/2007/06/russian_journal.html

Usmanov is also dogged by the widespread belief in Uzbekistan that he was guilty of a particularly atrocious rape, which was covered up and the victim and others in the know disappeared. The sad thing is that this is not particularly remarkable. Rape by the powerful is an everyday hazard in Uzbekistan, again as outlined in Murder in Samarkand page 120. If anyone has more detail on the specific case involving Usmanov please add a comment.

I reported back in 2002 or 2003 in an Ambassadorial top secret telegram to the Foreign Office that Usmanov was the most likely favoured successor of President Karimov as totalitarian leader of Uzbekistan. I also outlined the Gazprom deal (before it happened) and the present by Usmanov to Putin (though in Jastrzebski’s name) of half of Mapobank, a Russian commercial bank owned by Usmanov. I will never forget the priceless reply from our Embassy in Moscow. They said that they had never even heard of Alisher Usmanov, and that Jastrzebski was a jolly nice friend of the Ambassador who would never do anything crooked.

Sadly, I expect the football authorities will be as purblind. Football now is about nothing but money, and even Arsenal supporters – as tight-knit and homespun a football community as any – can be heard saying they don’t care where the money comes from as long as they can compete with Chelsea.

I fear that is very wrong. Letting as diseased a figure as Alisher Usmanov into your club can only do harm in the long term.

Blog Censorship In The UK

From Chicken Yoghurt-

Tim Ireland’s Bloggerheads site is currently down after his webhost pulled the plug. You can thank the latest Russian (that should be Uzbek) billionaire to reach the UK. The details will come out in due course.

This also means that the family of websites that Tim and Clive (whose site is also down) look after are also currently AWOL. So if you’re missing the online presences of Craig Murray, Bob Piper or Boris Johnson, now you know why they’ve gone.

Tim and Clive are now looking for a new web home for themselves and the rest and are hoping to be back within 48 hours. If any sympathetic souls would help spread the word, it would be most appreciated.

Now I am not remotely interested in football, hence I have not been overly worked up about this oligarch buying some business designed to fleece people for watching millionaires play a child’s game. However I really don’t like rich people using lawyers to enforce censorship, but it must be said that the allegations against Alisher Usmanov are completely unfounded. He is not a pig eyed sack of shit who does it with dead badgers, nor does he smell of rancid piss and have the dress sense of a retarded geography teacher. Using his billions to pay a fine firm of lawyers to close down bloggers is absolutely a noble pursuit and certainly him and all those lawyers should be commended on their excitingly authoritarian values. Anyone who says they are money grubbing weasels who don’t deserve to be pissed on even if they were on fire is clearly completely wrong and is the sort of person who Google’s – Craig Murray Usmanov – and reads the third result down. Obviously such lowlife thinks this fine litigious billionaire is a sleazy cretin who fancies his own mum, how wrong they would be! Best of all it confirms the law as an instrument of control wielded by the wealthy, which is of course a fine principle held by all right thinking people & lawyers who are absolutely not imbecilic Neanderthals, a conversation with whom would be less preferable than gargling cold diarrhoea whilst listening to Paris Hilton singing Britney covers. Have I made myself clear?

Franco Frattini European Commissioner For Justice, Freedom and Security Is Not To Be Trusted

First in America the Department of Justice came out against net neutrality, and as Rafael points out this was a govt. involved in illegal surveillance enabled by the telcos… returning the favour. Also it showed that the classical Mussolini concept (and that’s relevant to the next bit…) of fascism, corporations and government in harmony, will be looking to close down the freedom currently enjoyed on the web. But now a far more low key but just as dangerous threat has come via the European Union, let me introduce you to Franco Frattini, European commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security (hmm notice any conflicts of interest there?)-

“I do intend to carry out a clear exploring exercise with the private sector … on how it is possible to use technology to prevent people from using or searching dangerous words like bomb, kill, genocide or terrorism,” Frattini told Reuters.

Frattini has an awesome spin campaign that has worked for him, he is a firmly right wing Berlusconi authoritarian but because for a fleeting moment in his past that he was a lefty, he is promoted as Mr sensible technocrat consensus. But he is not, he is right winger who sees corporations as the natural ally of authoritarian government-

He was responsible for drawing up the bill aimed at smoothing over the conflict of interest between Mr Berlusconi as head of government and powerful media magnate. Mr Frattini does not welcome disagreement, he has spoken repeatedly of the importance of unity in Europe, and of healing divisions.

“Europe can only be viable if it is united and capable of speaking with a single voice,” he wrote in a recent editorial.

He became a commissioner because the first guy was a nujob bigot –

Mr Buttiglione’s views on homosexuality, women and immigration so inflamed the European Parliament that Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso was obliged to withdraw the entire 25-member team.

On leaving Buttiglione accused Frattini of being a mason, which has more significance in Italy than most places, but it’s a little too tin foil for my liking. But regardless of that Frattini was –

former head of the parliamentary commission overseeing the intelligence services, is widely admired for his competence and equanimity.

Which is important especially given the still unresolved history of the ‘stay behinds’ (called after Nazi units meant to attack advancing allied forces, ironically many post war stay behinds employed the same people. The instant the war ended both US and UK intelligence decided commies were the big threat and employed Nazis in these covert terrorist groups) and the US/UK created operation Gladio (for Gladiators) which while deployed throughout Europe was most active in Italy. In Italy right wing elements in govt and the intelligence and security services conspired with fascist groups to smear the left. They were funded very generously by America, top operatives receiving thousands per month (and that’s unadjusted for inflation). What this led to was a curious situation whereby if left wing parties looked to have a good chance in an election terrorist attacks would occur that would be widely blamed on left wing groups with the general meme being – this is what you can expect from those red scum. They were in fact carried out by right wing operatives. Even more alarmingly when a left wing Prime minister was briefed about security issues they were not told about Gladio or it’s associates so in effect it became a secret right wing group within Italian society and the security services. It operated what was called a “strategy of tension” to create a sense of anxiety in the country and to paint the left as dangerous & untrustworthy. Effectively a secret group including members of political parties, govt, the intelligence services, police, neo fascists and the CIA acting against the democratically elected government (if said govt. endangered imperial interests or was insufficiently right wing and corporate friendly).

Most of this is historic and detailed exhaustively in a 1992 BBC documentary in three parts, (google vid here 150min total, ignore the conspiracy theory types who have posted it, this is a serious BBC documentary that interviews many acknowledged operatives). But even today Gladio and the legacy of the stay behinds is unacknowledged and investigations have been stymied by the powerful people involved. Does the legacy still mean right wingers within (particularly) Italy’s establishment utilise covert methods to control perception and if necessary use violence to discredit opponents. Does it also go some way to explaining the anomalous way that right wing terrorism is not treated as such throughout Europe?

Frattini in his position on the parliamentary commission had the potential to be either covering or trying to instigate oversight, his position of favour with Berlusconi (who was on a list of members of P2 who conspired with Gladio, seized when Licio Gelli’s home was radied) suggests he may be more in the covering up camp than the open democratic accountability ‘thing’. As for the current status of Gladio & after-effects one incident does speak to its influence over current affairs. There was an American who worked in Italy for the US throughout the 70’s (when some of the worst atrocities attributed to leftists but which in all likelihood were committed by stay behind/Gladio units happened) he was an open admirer of Italian fascism, he was intimately involved with the leader of P2/ the suspected leader of the Gladio project in Italy. In 2001 this man returned to Italy where his connections helped introduce various players (Larry Franklin AIPAC spy, Manucher Ghorbanifar -Iranian Arms dealer, Iran-Contra involved- Italian, Iranian & Egyptian intelligence agents) who went on to produce the forged Niger documents that enabled President Bush to declare Iraq was seeking nuclear weapons. You probably know this man’s name, you may have seen him on TV or read an article (recently he is pushing for an attack on Iran). This man is Michael Ledeen. His story links the Gladio operations of the past, Italy’s neo fascists and the American neo-conservative movement which lied us into a war that has killed 1 million people to date.

From Barbara Honegger’s October Surprise:
When the Italian police raided (P2 Lodge founder) Gelli’s home in March 1981, it was Michael Ledeen who, at the instigation of Alexander Haig and Henry Kissinger, offered to buy the list of 953 P2 members in an apparent attempt to keep it from becoming public. Henry Kissinger had also reportedly sent Ledeen to Italy to try to squash an investigation into his and Haig’s involvement in the founding of P2.

Guess who gave the keynote speech at an American Enterprise Institute conference in Italy which also included Ledeen, Richard Perle, John Bolton? Yep, Frattini. He is being presented as a consummate politician and consensus builder, but what that actually means is- well connected right wing authoritarian with America’s interests (and it’s neo-conservatives) close to his heart. For example what do you suppose he thought of Dick Marty’s investigation into CIA black site ghost prisons in Europe-

The word of anonymous witnesses is not enough to prove that the CIA ran secret prisons in Poland and Romania, the European Union’s top security official said in an interview.

But Justice and Security Commissioner Franco Frattini told Reuters late on Tuesday he would seek further clarification from both countries after Council of Europe investigator Dick Marty said last week he was certain they had hosted such jails.”

Of course the report has lots of named sources and it has come out CIA officers outraged at the program leaked info to Marty for the report. [Warning links to wingnut sites!]-Here’s Ledeen praising a demo against Iran which was endorsed by Frattini. So he’s not one to balk at the Empire… And now he is using them scary terrorists to introduce censorship of the web in Europe, plus his presentation also includes passenger data which America and the EU have been negotiating over, good job he’s so…understanding to the Empire’s needs-

Frattini says that the precise nature of the PNR policy changes are still being discussed, but “the Commission’s main intention is to ensure that each Member State collects the PNR records, processes them and, where appropriate, exchanges them with others.”

It is difficult to judge the soundness of these plans without more details about their potential scope and nature. If legislation banning publication of bomb-making instructions is too broad and doesn’t include appropriate exceptions, it could theoretically put chemistry sites at risk. We have seen in the past that Internet censorship laws—even ones that stem from good intentions—often have unanticipated negative consequences.

The existing PNR infrastructure has received criticism in the past and is already considered excessive by some. Attempts to expand the program could be met with hostility by EU citizens.

Of course that is what I question, the ‘good intentions’ given his connections and preferred ideological fellow travelers and the lethal history of the Italian right & its secret alliance with the security services, I don’t think I want this man controlling the very media you are now utilising to read this post.

Adnan Oktar Causes All Of WordPress Banned In Turkey (and his beard is stupid)

Thanks to a comment about the previous coverage of Turkey censoring wordpress, seems the story about the mass block being a mistake that I thought sounded a tad wonky was completely wonky, all of wordpress is blocked (WordPress founding developer’s post on it here.) and now flickr. Flickr users go to the right sidebar and get Hamed Saber’s Flickr plug in for Firefox which has successfully outwitted censorship in Iran, UAE, Saudiu Arabia & China (Go Hamed!).

The block is the result of a litigious prick called Adnan Oktar who runs a wonky cult that believes in creationism among its moronic credos. That he has managed to block all of wordpress in Turkey is a shameful blow against free speech in a country that often censors dissent. Adnan Oktar sent out a ludicrous letter which showed as well as rejecting science he also rejects paying good translators, here is what this authoritarian cult nut-job has to say-

There is a lesson which all blog services and internet service providers should take from this judgement. Blog services, especially the ones that give free service, should be careful about the sites that are illegally active through their firms. These services should not remain insensitive to the complaints that they receive and especially to the judgements. It is certain that the services which behave opppositely will meet with the same enforcement that WordPress met.
Blog owners should be careful when they are selecting the service from which they are going to get service. They have to choose a service respectful to law, human rights, justice judgements not a random service. If they do like this, they will provide continuous progress of their publications and also they will force the blog services to behave according to rights and law. Thus, both freedom of intelligence, and personal rights are going to be protected.

Incoherent delusional authoritarian bullshit brother! Basically if you say something this retard doesn’t like he gets everyone shut down and has a hissy fit like a big stupid girl and plays the victim. Now here is a picture of this messianic douchebag-

Wow 1975 again already is it? Sing it with me -Ha hah Ha ha Staying Alive, Staying Alive!

Now Mideast Youth meta blog has a petition up here which I urge you to sign before every 70’s throwback religious wankjob starts to feel their oats and sics lawyers on anyone not conforming to their sham delusions.

Now then you may have noticed I have been gratuitously and childishly insulting Adnan Oktar and you may well have guessed this is very deliberate, because of him wordpress and all the bloggers are blocked in Turkey, their work stolen from them and now Flickr (not for long, Hamed to the rescue!) and even posting his name causes you trouble, yes -Adnan Oktar, causes you trouble. Yes, just typing Adnan Oktar causes a conniption fit and he calls his lawyers probably while peeing his pants (and let’s face it they’re probably ladies panties). So on no account should you write Adnan Oktar lots of times with puerile and idiotic invective close by, shiny suited Disco dweeb Arse biscuits!

The serious point is teaching authoritarian censorship fetishist that the minute you try and stifle dissent on the web it becomes a game of whackamole, for every site you silence ten, a hundred, a thousand pop up (and insult you gratuitously). What started all this was a blogger who writes about Adnan Oktar’s shortcomings in a less than generous light, gosh wouldn’t it be awful if someone reprinted those naughty accusations?- Read the rest of this entry »
