Guardian Employs Judith Miller

In a CiF piece entitled Keep Gitmo open. No I’m not linking because the reason they do this is to spark ‘controversy’ which equals hits and discussion which equals revenue and public profile. Now pointing out may be construed as playing that game but really Judith fucking Miller in the Grauniad? Fuck off! A neocon apparatchik and disgrace to journalism with blood on her hands defending a concentration camp where torture occurs and kangaroo courts beyond the law operate. Just for the other journos on the paper isn’t this an insult? Not big, not clever. In a time when they are panicking from revenue loss this does not endear them to people who might otherwise support the paper.

OK, the Guardian is dead, someone call the Coroner.

  2. earwicga Says:

The comments under the piece in The Guardian echo your own.

  3. RickB Says:

It’s a reprint of a LA Times piece (?) wow do some papers hate their journalists, what a slap in the face to actual reporters.

  4. ralfast Says:

That’s even worse. Considering all the great reporting the Guardian has done on Iraq, why would they go with a self-promoting fraud like Miller? A woman with 0-10000 record in all things Iraq I may add.

  5. Bina Says:

Sounds to me like they’re bending over backwards to prove how “fair and balanced” they are.

Problem is, they’re “balancing” honest reporting with LIES.

Which means they’re not bending over backwards for fairness, they’re stooping. To do what? Scrape the bottom of the barrel, what else?

  6. RickB Says:

Hey Bina, yes, it is not balance to accept lies, and just how insulting to readers this is, the same article appears on the front page of right now. That’s the UK Guardian syndicating an op piece Fox promote! And she is a known mouthpiece for rightist propaganda (that got over a million people killed) I do not think it is a stretch to think she might be an ‘asset’ too.

Yep, stooping. And it’s not bravery -‘to show another controversial view’ they reject pieces over fears of backlash from progressive authors.

  7. Bina Says:

Somehow, I’m not surprised. I’ve been receiving Media Lens reports for a while now, and the cowardice of the British corporate media is practically legendary…yet they who work in it are the most wilfully blind to their own problems. Probably they self-select for pro-corporate biases, and even consider them to be virtues.

  8. RickB Says:

Yes and also the drive to dominate the online market the Guardian (or Grauniad the joke name based on it’s legendary typos in the past) has these specious op pieces by nutjobs to gain attention. Medialens are vital countervailing force to keep the hacks on their toes, liberal corporatism is still coporatism.
