How fucked do you have to be that it’s a headline-

Water Boarding is Torture

This is not a cause for celebration it is merely a statement of fact, celebration is when the sentences for war criminals are handed down (not holding my breath, not a water boarding joke). Gee, maybe the media won’t call it ‘interrogation’ anymore, whadya reckon?

Courage To Resist- IDF

Bethlehem – Ma’an – at least ten soldiers have opted for prison terms rather than going through with their deployment.  The refusals would be the first of their kind since Israel launched its massive air, sea and ground assault on the Gaza Strip, On “conscience’s grounds,” the soldiers refused orders to head to the Gaza Strip, they said.

Preferring a 14-day prison stint and rounding criticism from fellow soldiers and society at large, at least ten are awaiting trial for violations of orders. One said he simply could not go through with the deployment.

No’em Levna, a first lieutenant in Israel’s army, refused to serve in Gaza, saying, “We killed 900 Palestinians in 17 days, including hundreds of children.”

“If violence must be used, it should be used minimally, and that isn’t what’s happening,” he added. “Killing innocent civilians cannot be justified. Nothing justifies this kind of killing. It’s devilish.”

“It is Israeli arrogance based on logic. It’s saying, ‘if we hit more, everything will be okay,'” he said. “But the hatred and anger we are planting in Gaza will rebound on us.” (ht2 Uruknet & Danny Schechter)

And don’t forget the teenagers in jail the Shministim because they outright reject the racist military machine of zionism.

Gerald Kaufman is a bit Angry

“My grandmother was ill in bed when the Nazis came to her home town…. A German soldier shot her dead in her bed, he said. My grandmother did not die to provide cover for Israeli soldiers murdering Palestinian grandmothers in Gaza,” the MP said.

Gerald Kaufman, a governing Labour Party legislator, sharply criticized Israel in a House of Commons debate on Gaza, arguing that the Jewish state has exploited guilt that much of the world feels for having ignored the slaughter of six million of Jews during World War II.

“The present Israeli government ruthlessly and cynically exploit the continuing guilt from Gentiles over the slaughter of Jews in the Holocaust as justification for their murder of Palestinians,” he said.

The offensive started in response to Hamas rocket attacks on Israeli cities. Medical officials in Gaza have said about 1,100 Palestinians have been killed since the offensive started. Thirteen Israelis have been killed in the fighting, including three civilians who were slain in rocket attacks on southern Israel.

Kaufman, a frequent critic of Israel who was raised as an Orthodox Jew, commented on the claim that large numbers of the Palestinian victims were militants. “I suppose the Jews fighting for their lives in the Warsaw ghetto could have been dismissed as militants,” he said.

Kaufman urged the British government to impose an arms embargo on Israel.

And a shocking quote from Jews Sans Frontieres that pertains to an academic boycott which I think Kaufman opposes but now the fruit of zionism is so brutally plain to see –

Arnon Sofer, a Jewish Israeli intellectual, teaches (!) at Haifa University:

When 2.5 million [Palestinians] live in a closed-off Gaza, those people will become even bigger animals than they are today, with the aid of an insane fundamentalist Islam. So, if we want to remain alive, we will have to kill and kill and kill. All day, every day. If we don’t kill, we will cease to exist. The only thing that concerns me is how to ensure that the [Jewish] boys and men who are going to have to do the killing will be able to return home to their families and be normal human beings. Fixing Intelligence Around The Policy

Apparently very popular among warmongers, via Pulse Ira Chernus sez-

Foreign Policy In Focus:- All of the suffering in Gaza — indeed, all of the suffering endured by Palestinians under Israeli occupation for the last eight years — could have been avoided if Israel negotiated a peace agreement with Yasser Arafat when it had the chance, in 2001.

What chance? The official Israeli position is that there was no chance, “no partner for peace.” That’s what Israeli leaders heard from their Military Intelligence (MI) service in 2000 after the failure of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations at Camp David. Arafat scuttled those talks, MI told the leaders, because he was planning to set off a new round of violence, a second intifada.

Now former top officials of MI say the whole story, painting Arafat as a terrorist out to destroy Israel, was an intentional fiction. That’s the most explosive finding in an investigative report just published in Israel’s top newspaper, Ha’aretz, by one of its finest journalists, Akiva Eldar.

Israel Threatens to Shoot Unarmed Civilians Aboard FreeGaza Ship

Israeli gunboats intercepted the FreeGaza ship, which was trying to deliver medical aid to Gaza, in international waters (and yet Somali pirates get all the press, hmmm) and threatened to fire on them. The ship Spirit of Humanity was thus forced to turn back to Cyprus. The most moral army in the world, they lie to themselves.

(Mediterranean Sea, 15 January 2009) – The Israeli navy today threatened to kill unarmed civilians aboard a mercy ship on its way to deliver medical supplies and doctors to besieged Gaza.

The Free Gaza Movement ship, SPIRIT OF HUMANITY, left Cyprus Wednesday morning carrying doctors, journalists, human rights workers, and parliamentarians. The ship also carried over a ton of desperately needed medicines donated by the European Campaign to Break the Siege, and intended for overwhelmed hospitals in the Gaza Strip. At the request of the ship’s organizers the passenger list and manifest were publicly released, and Cypriot authorities searched the boat prior to its departure in order to certify that it only carried humanitarian items. The organizers also sent an official notification to the Israeli government of their intent to break through the blockade of Gaza.

At roughly 3am UST (1am GMT), in international waters 100 miles off the coast of Gaza, at least five Israeli gunboats surrounded the SPIRIT OF HUMANITY and began recklessly cutting in front of the slow-moving civilian craft. The Israeli warships radioed the SPIRIT, demanding that the ship turn around or they would open fire and “shoot.” When asked if the Israeli navy was acknowledging that they intended to commit a war crime by deliberately firing on unarmed civilians, the warships replied that they were prepared to use “any means” to stop the ship.

An earlier attempt by Free Gaza to deliver doctors and medical supplies ended on 30 December when Israeli gunboats deliberately and repeatedly rammed the DIGNITY, almost sinking that ship. Rather than endanger the lives of its passengers, the SPIRIT is now returning to Cyprus.

Israel’s reckless and shocking threats against an unarmed ship on a mission of mercy are a violation of both international maritime law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, which states that “the high seas should be reserved for peaceful purposes.”

CALL the Israeli Government and demand that it immediately STOP attacking the civilian population of Gaza and STOP using violence to prevent human rights and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people.

Empire of The Propagandised

WASHINGTON– The American public supports Israel in its military incursion into Gaza, according to a recent poll conducted by Ipsos.

The poll results published Tuesday show that 44% of Americans blame Hamas for the current conflict while only 14% blame Israel. Nine percent said both sides were to blame, and 29% were undecided.

Also, 57% of Americans thought that Hamas had used “excessive” force, whereas 44% thought that Israel had used “appropriate” force.

Regarding a resolution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict, a surprising number of people were opposed to the two-state solution so often voiced by US leaders.

When asked whether the US should support the establishment of a Palestinian state, 45% answered negatively while just 31% answered positively, and 24% were undecided.
