Pity The Poor Arms Dealer

For arms dealer Abu Walid, political crisis in Lebanon means profit. He says he can’t keep up with customer demand. “The market is very prosperous. If there were weapons factories in Lebanon today, they would not be able to meet the demand,” he said, adding that the price of a good Kalashnikov — his best selling gun — had trebled to more than $1,000.

Of course Israel just gets them all bulk discount off the US, meanwhile Lebanon is ripped up in a proxy conflict between the empire and Syria & Iran. Wonder what he charges for a ‘bad’ Kalashniko, $750 and a complimentary steak knife set? I hope he can offset his supply problems with interests in hospitals and undertakers, go capitalism!

Nov 6th- Cheney Impeachment

Game on!

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) announced today that he will be offering a privileged resolution on the House floor next week that will bring articles of impeachment against the Vice President, Richard B. Cheney.

“The momentum is building for impeachment,” Kucinich said. “Millions of citizens across the nation are demanding Congress rein in the Vice President’s abuse of power.

“Despite this groundswell of opposition to the unconstitutional conduct of office, Vice President Cheney continues to violate the U.S. Constitution by insisting the power of the executive branch is supreme.

“Congress must hold the Vice President accountable. The American people need to let Members of Congress know how they feel about this. The Vice President continues to use his office to advocate for a continued occupation of Iraq and prod our nation into a belligerent stance against Iran. If the Vice President is successful, his actions will ensure decades of disastrous consequences.”

The privileged resolution has priority status for consideration on the House floor. Once introduced, the resolution has to be brought to the floor within two legislative days, although the House could act on it immediately. Kucinich is expected to bring it to the House floor on Tuesday, November 6.

Congressman Dennis Kucnich, whose bill to impeach Cheney has 22 sponsors, will introduce a resolution on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives on November 6. Another congress member will move to table (kill) the resolution. The vote will come on the 6th, 7th, or 8th. We need you to ask your representative to vote No on tabling, Yes on giving impeachment a chance. Those who vote Yes to table cannot use the excuse that “We don’t have the votes,” since others will at that same instant with exactly the same exertion be voting No.

The corrupt political class will move to kill it, after all it’s not like America is a democracy answerable to the people and its constitution. Is it? (h/t RawStory)

Mounties Hiding Tape Of Taser Killing

RCMP have another six days to return a Victoria man’s video recording of a police Taser incident at Vancouver airport last month where a Polish immigrant died. A court hearing was adjourned until next Thursday when the lawyer for a man suing the RCMP for the return of the video told the court he’s been given assurances by Department of Justice officials that the Mounties will return the tape early next week.Paul Pritchard of Victoria videotaped the events leading up to the Oct. 14 death of Robert Dziekanski at the airport. He says he loaned his video to the Mounties, who promised they would return it within 48 hours. But he went to court after the RCMP said they may keep the tape for more than two years.

Taser inc. have been one the greatest beneficiaries of the lockdown culture spreading globally under the mask of the war on terror, how many deaths until we realise the taser is a machine that turns latent authoritarians into lethal agents of state violence. Because they are promoted as non lethal they are used more easily than a firearm and police now use them simply to force compliance rather than use dialogue or plain common sense. They are a technology that encourages bad policing and repressive governance, in that respect they are 100% lethal.

Update: The video has been released-

The RCMP lied.-

A spokeswoman for Amnesty International Canada says she’s troubled by the sharp contrast in police statements about why a man was shot by a Taser and later died, compared with what’s seen in a video recording viewed around the world.

The Sicko Money Chooses Hillary

In a reversal from past election cycles, Democratic candidates for president are outpacing Republicans in donations from the health care industry, even as the leading Democrats in the field offer proposals that have caused deep anxiety in some of its sectors. Hospitals, drug makers, doctors and insurers gave candidates in both parties more than $11 million in the first nine months of this year, according to an analysis of campaign finance records done for The New York Times by the Center for Responsive Politics, an independent group that tracks campaign finance. In all, the Democratic presidential candidates have raised about $6.5 million from the industry, compared with nearly $4.8 million for the Republican candidates. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York has amassed the most of any candidate, even as she calls for changes to the health care system that could pose serious financial challenges to private insurers, drug companies and other sectors.

Clinton’s is third way conservative tinkering, only Kucinich is proposing healthcare removed from the profit motive-

On Jan. 24, 2007, Reps. John Conyers and Dennis Kucinich led 43 other House members in introducing HR 676, the Conyers/Kucinich Health Care bill. Today the bill, which Kucinich helped write, is supported by 76 members of Congress, 250 union locals, and more than 14,000 physicians. HR 676 is endorsed by the New Hampshire State Legislature and by Michael Moore, producer of SICKO.
