No one called it that in case it frightens the horses but…
Some three dozen workers at a telemarketing call center in Indiana walked off the job rather than read an incendiary McCain campaign script attacking Barack Obama, according to two workers at the center and one of their parents.
Nina Williams, a stay-at-home mom in Lake County, Indiana, tells us that her daughter recently called her from her job at the center, upset that she had been asked to read a script attacking Obama for being “dangerously weak on crime,” “coddling criminals,” and for voting against “protecting children from danger.”
Williams’ daughter told her that up to 40 of her co-workers had refused to read the script, and had left the call center after supervisors told them that they would have to either read the call or leave, Williams says. The call center is called Americall, and it’s located in Hobart, IN.
“They walked out,” Williams says of her daughter and her co-workers, adding that they weren’t fired but willingly sacrificed pay rather than read the lines. “They were told [by supervisors], `If you all leave, you’re not gonna get paid for the rest of the day.”
Spontaneous walkout on a matter of principle…money can’t buy you smears, imagine if that spread, imagine people learned they had the power…Not just to put Obama in the Whitehouse, but to hold him to account, to govern for people, not the elite, not the Empire’s military nightmares, imagine democracy.
Via The Unapologetic Mexican this is a great Chomsky summation of the situation, vote Obama in swing states but without illusions-

“Keating Five” McCain has been an incredibly corrupt and racist politician throughout his career. The evil and unAmerican way he has conducted his campaign is typical of his behavior.

And with that stipulated we have the phenomenon of many media figures who have promoted the perception of him as an ok guy and maverick, even if now they are beginning to retract their approval. So all that time being pals with this corrupt, racist, son of privilege, what does that say about these media figures. What of their core beliefs and judgement. And even when he is gone, they remain.

I don’t think most of the media figures even have core beliefs. I think they mostly are shills for management.

As careerists say- don’t rock the boat especially when you’re in it.
(Also in Pump Up The Volume I seem to recall, The Slater!)

“…~Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl from ipanema goes walking~….”
I heard since this that there have been suggestions to unionise so next time they don’t lose money when they act on principle. Also this tele corp apparently is owned by French geezers, so McCain was paying evil French socialists to accuse Obama of being un-American. What a fucking bus crash of a campaign!

Dave: You rock!
rickb: That was the kind of fabulously bitchy comment a godless liberal mo like me is supposed to make.

Dave does indeed rock, and as a call centre veteran I thought he’d enjoy the joke.
