The blog is called ten percent because of what Kurt Vonnegut wrote when remembering Susan Sontag - She was asked what she had learned from the Holocaust, and she said that 10 percent of any population is cruel, no matter what, and that 10 percent is merciful, no matter what, and that the remaining 80 percent could be moved in either direction.-
And I'm writing it because I need the therapy and I lust for world domination.
For those of us less informed on Burma, it would be helpful to know which ones are the least tied to the government there. I would like to help the people while avoiding helping the state.
All of those are ok, I would favour the trans-national ones that are not directly referencing religion, but for this stage any are fine. I am doing one direct to Burmese http://ko-htike.blogspot.com/2008/05/burma-cyclone-appeal.html
I am also going with RedCross/Crescent as they are on the ground & have expertise and are involved with checking on prison conditions outside of the disaster. http://donate.ifrc.org/
Worldvision are on the ground now also, so that would also be good. (UK but should accept credit cards, specify Burma in menu) https://www.worldvision.org.uk/server.php?show=nav.127
After the emergency period there will be other options as people get on their feet and get organised. Supporting those people powered projects will be crucial I think, but that is down the line some, for now it is emergency aid. Ideally I want this to be the event that precipitates the end of the junta and allows the Burmese to build their own democracy which also means disaster capitalists and hungry superpowers do not get their claws in.

Hey Ali, thanks for the thanks! I hope people are sparing some money for the relief effort.
